Save the Iconic Georgia Peach
The first and only nonprofit foundation dedicated to saving a symbol of Southern hospitality.
We help preserve orchards and the future of the iconic Georgia peach.
Who We Are: Saving the Georgia Peach, One Tree at a Time
Once upon a time, Georgia’s rolling hills were dotted with sun-kissed peach orchards, filling the air with the sweet scent of summer. Today, those same lands are being swallowed by concrete, abandoned to the elements, or crushed under the weight of corporate agriculture.
Family-owned peach orchards—the heart and soul of Georgia’s agricultural heritage—are disappearing at an alarming rate. But we refuse to let the legendary Georgia Peach become just a memory. The Save Georgia Peach Orchards Foundation steps in, securing land and beginning the process of restoration.
Our volunteers fight every day to preserve and revive the orchards that made Georgia famous. We step in where others won’t—restoring abandoned orchards, partnering with landowners to save their family legacies, and advocating for the small farmers who refuse to let Big Ag erase them.
Without donations like yours, these orchards will vanish—paved over for another strip mall, sold off to corporate giants, or left to wither away. Will you help ensure that future generations can still bite into a juicy, sun-ripened Georgia peach?
What We Do: Fighting for a Very Juicy Future
Imagine a once-thriving orchard, now left abandoned—branches brittle, fruitless, and forgotten. Imagine a family farmer, generations deep in peach growing, forced to sell their land because they simply can’t compete with industrial giants. These stories are far too common, and without action, Georgia’s legendary peaches will be nothing more than a fading memory.
At the Save Georgia Peach Orchards Foundation, we don’t just talk about saving orchards—we take action. Volunteers revive neglected groves and bring dying trees back to life. We work with landowners who donate their orchards through the Gift-An-Orchard initiative, ensuring their family’s legacy continues to bear fruit. We support struggling farmers with direct grants to help them stand strong against the never-ending pressure of Big Ag. And when developers threaten to bulldoze historic orchards for yet another shopping center, we fight back—because a Georgia without peaches is simply unthinkable.
With every orchard we restore, we’re keeping Georgia’s peach tradition alive. Your support fuels our efforts to ensure that Georgia’s rolling hills stay covered in peach blossoms for generations to come.
Anticipated Projects: Reviving Georgia’s Peach Heritage
Just outside of Macon, a once-thriving peach orchard sat in silence. The trees, once bursting with fruit, were now gnarled and struggling, their limbs weighed down not with peaches, but with years of neglect. The original owner, a third-generation peach farmer, had been forced to abandon it after rising costs and competition from industrial agriculture made it impossible to keep the farm running. His children, unable to maintain the land, considered selling it—until Save Georgia Peach Orchards Foundation stepped in. Now, this orchard—once destined for demolition—could become one of Georgia’s first ‘Peach Preservation Learning Farms,’ where young farmers and agriculture students will learn hands-on how to maintain and revive orchards, ensuring the knowledge and passion for Georgia’s peach industry continues for generations.
Meanwhile, over in Fort Valley, another crucial project could be taking root. A 50-acre orchard, previously sold off in pieces to developers, may be donated to our foundation by a family who wanted to see their legacy live on. Instead of becoming another strip mall, it will soon be home to our Heritage Peach Orchard Initiative—a working farm dedicated to growing heirloom peach varieties that have nearly disappeared due to mass commercialization. These rare, flavorful peaches will not only be cultivated and preserved, but their seeds will be distributed to small farmers across Georgia, helping to restore genetic diversity and keep Georgia’s peach industry rich with variety and history.
These projects are more than just about saving trees; they are about saving Georgia’s identity and ensuring that abandoned orchards don’t become shopping centers. Will you stand with us to save Georgia’s peaches?
